Ohio Governor Strickland to Veto Elections Bill
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland announced yesterday that he would veto an elections bill designed to eliminate the weeklong period that Ohioans can register to vote and cast a ballot on the same day, referred to as the “Golden Week.” The Lawyers’ Committee applauds the governor for taking a strong stand in support of Ohio voters. Allowing eligible Americans the opportunity to register and vote at the same time increases civic participation and provides more opportunities to vote, thereby reducing the strain on the system on Election Day.
